My work as a Psychotherapist using Narrative and Creative Techniques
For 12 years, alongside my Writing career, I practised as an Integrative Psychotherapist drawing inspiration. from the work and methods of Psychologist Carl Rogers, as well as the application. of Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Clinical Hypnotherapy.
Much of my work was influenced by Buddhist Mindful based philosophies, both Tibetan and Zen/.
During that time I saw hundreds of clients in my Rooms in Bristol and worked with a wide range of issues, including Anxiety, Depression, Drug and Alcohol Addiction, Abuse, Phobias, Trauma, Obsessions and Relationship matters, as well as being one of only two Psychoherapists in the south west of England designated by The South West Deanery to counsel NHS Hospital Doctors.
I was also a Clinical Supervisor working with a group of 10 practising therapists at monthly peer-group Supervision meetings.
Though no longer practising in this way, I have retained professional Insurances, and occasionally counsel 'on-line', often 'pro-bono' .
I am planning a book about Psychotherapy and Creativity entitled ' Lives Writ On Water' which looks at 10 anonymised Case Studies each separated by a Poem and with a final Creative Writing chapter on Narrative Therapy and Poetry to help reframe and re-write Life Scripts for a more positive 'Third Act' and 'Outcome' of lives.
